Tying the Parachute Adams Dry Fly

Learn to tie the Parachute Adams Dry Fly. This pattern is indispensable- tie it in sizes 12-22 and you can match just about any hatch. The Parachute Adams is primarily used as a mayfly imitation, but can pass for many insects. Great fly in smaller sizes during a midge hatch. This version of the parachute adams uses calf body for a parachute post, however, turkey flats, antron yarn, or poly yarn could be substituted. Choosing the correct dubbing and applying it sparsely will make your Parachute Adams look the way they should- slender with a nice taper from front to back. In this video, the fly is tied with Nature's Spirit Fine Natural Dubbing. We use this dubbing frequently on our flies. However, for small sizes (18-24) a synthetic might be a better choice. Spirit River Fine and Dry or Super Fine Dubbing from Wapsi are nice synthetic dubbings. Good hackle will make all the difference when tying any dry fly. Be sure to select high quality neck or saddle hackle. We prefer Whiting Farms hackle.
