Cul de Canard, or CDC, is one of the most useful natural materials in fly tying. The feathers come from around a duck's preen gland, and their fine, branched fibers trap air, making flies float while giving them lifelike movement.

CDC is a staple for emergers, spinners, caddis, and small dries on picky trout, and it makes great soft hackles and nymph collars too. We carry CDC in natural and dyed colors, as loose feathers, tufts, and bulk packs. Keep CDC flies away from paste floatants, which mat the fibers; use a powder or desiccant instead.
