F-Fly Sighter Version - Fly Tying Materials

Learn to tie the F Fly with a sighter post. The sighter adds a hot spot post for better visibility. The F Fly is now a classic. Its reputation is well earned. The F Fly is easy to tie, great for beginners learning to tie dry flies. But don't let the simplicity of this pattern fool you! It fools even the pickiest of fish. Tie in sizes 10-24. Change the thread color to match the hatch. We typically tie this in olive and black, just those two colors can cover a variety of insects, from Baetis to midges to small stoneflies.

Materials

Hook: Umpqua XC120 BL (or similar barbless dry fly hook- Hanak 130BL, Fulling Mill FM5050) Size 12-20

Thread: Semperfli Classic Waxed 12/0 (Pale Olive was used in this video. Other colors that are well suited to this pattern are black, gray, and brown olive)

Sighter: Datum Glo-Brite Floss Fl Flame or Fl Fire Orange
