Why You Should Hire a Fly Fishing Guide
Ryan Gabert |
We frequently get asked the question, 'why should I hire a fly fishing guide?'. Everybody wants to go out and catch more fish, but there's a lot more to a day out with one of our guides than just catching fish. Our team of guides are out on the water nearly every day during guide season, and have all been teaching folks the nuances of fly fishing in the Black Hills for many seasons. Whether you're new to fly fishing, or you're a seasoned veteran that's on their first trip to the Black Hills, a day with one of our experienced guides is a day well spent!
If you're new to the sport of fly fishing, having a guide show you the ropes is the easiest, least frustrating way to get started. We take out new people frequently, and all of our guides are great teachers that will take the time to show you how to be successful on the water without making you feel like a dummy. Our guides can start from square one in the morning, teach you the basics, and have you catching fish quickly. We have a variety of streams available for us to fish and guide, and can cater each day depending on accessibility, experience, and personal preference. No matter your level of experience, our guides can take you out on the water and have you effectively fishing in short order!
Since we're out on the water just about every day, we have an intimate knowledge of each of the streams in the area. Our guides know what streams fish best depending on weather conditions, water levels, precipitation, and other variables. You won't spend time fishing water that isn't going to be productive. We have a wide variety of water available for us to fish, and can cater each day to what you want to achieve. Want to catch brookies on dry flies? Can do. Want to chase a big fish on a streamer, and don't care how many fish you catch? We can do that too. No matter what you want to achieve, our team of guides can make it happen. Whether the best fishing is going to be five minutes from the shop or an hour, we're all more than willing to travel to get you on good water with willing fish. All of our guides are passionate about fly fishing and the streams of the Black Hills, and genuinely want you to catch fish and have an enjoyable experience.
If you're wanting to learn a new technique, our guides are proficient in nearly every style and tactic of fly fishing. Whether you want to fish streamers, learn how to fish Tenkara, chase pike on a fly rod, or a myriad of other things, our guides can get you on the water and learning. All of our guides enjoy fishing for multiple species and are passionate about teaching new techniques and tactics. We can break down techniques and styles of fly fishing into basic terminology and make it less intimidating and much easier to learn. Because we're on the water so often, we can get you on the best water for the style of fishing that you want to learn based on the current conditions!
The more obvious benefit of hiring a guide, especially if you're new to an area, is that you're going to be more successful. Many of our clients are pleasantly surprised with how much opportunity there is on a day out with one of our guides. If we're not getting strikes, our guides are constantly changing to make your day more successful, whether that means changing flies, tactics, or locations. We've had a lot of trips out over the past few weeks, and they've all been incredibly successful - here's a few pictures from the last week or so!
We have the best and most experienced team of guides in the Black Hills, and that means that you're going to have a fantastic day on the water with us!
