Nice Weather - Winter Fly Fishing
Hans Stephenson |
February has been quite warm. While worrisome on one hand, it's been a treat to get in so much fishing lately. The forecast looks cooler until at least this Thursday, which will give us time to tie flies to make up for those lost in the past couple weeks. Jig nymphs in size 14 have been awesome lead flies, and a midge dropper has been a must. My best bugs have been Jig Red Fox Squirrel Nymphs, Jig Quill Nymphs, and variations on the tungsten zebra midge.
Here are some photos from this past Friday. We hiked downstream of Pactola Reservoir on Rapid Creek. We found plenty of good holding water with nice browns. Most of the fish were holding in pools, but the deeper runs held fish as well.
