Missouri River Warmwater Class - May 21-22
Ryan Gabert |
After the success of our Pike class, we're going to offer a Fly Fishing the Missouri River class on May 21st here at the shop. Flyfishing for the warmwater species of the Missouri River in South Dakota is some of our favorite fishing of the year! May is one of the ideal months to make the short trek over to Pierre and chase Smallies, White Bass, Carp, Catfish, Northern Pike, and a number of other species. We think that a lot of people are missing out on a fantastic fly fishing opportunity that's doable in a day trip from the Black Hills, and we want to do something about it.
The class will be held here at the shop on Saturday, May 21st at 10am. We will go over flies, how to rig your rod, where to look for the different fish species of the Missouri River, and how to effectively locate and catch them. After that, there will be a fly tying portion as well, showing you how to tie a few of our favorite flies for the Pierre area. After the class, a couple of us will be heading over to Pierre to fish the next day, May 22nd. We will meet at a central location, and we can fish together and split up as needed. To be clear, this isn't a guided trip. Rather, it's more of a social fishing gathering where we're all fishing and giving each other a few tips. Flyfishing the Missouri is some of our favorite fishing of the year, and it's a nice change from casting two nymphs for trout!
The cost for the class will be $50, and we have a limited number of spots available. Call the shop at 605-341-2450, or shoot us an email at dakotaflyangler@gmail.com to reserve your spot.
