Rapid Creek - In town continues to fish great, with fish coming to net with a variety of techniques. Nymphing, Dries, small streamers, and skittering crane flies and caddis in the evening have all been producing fish! Nymphing San Juans has been a great way to tempt some of the bigger fish out of the deeper lies as well. Below Pactola has been fishing better than previously, with the increased flows. Fish have been eating nymphs, with Tungsten Split Case BWO's and PMD's producing well. Big Terrestrials are getting some of our biggest fish lately, with Chubby ETs, Grand Hoppers, and Big Secrets being taken by many fish. The PMD and BWO hatch has been great also, even though it is sporadic throughout the day. SIlver City has been fishing alright, but those wanting to fish upper Rapid should stick to the higher stretches near Rochford. General attractor dries such as Stimulators and Klinkhamers have been working well, and UV Czechs and Psychos are getting them under the surface. Overall, Rapid is fishing great throughout it's entirety!
Spearfish Creek - Great nymphing! Many fish are being caught using Tenkara techniques still, with most of them being in the faster water and pockets, where Tenkara really shines. Good flies are UV Czechs, North Forks, Tung Teasers, San Juans, G-String Worms, and Tungsten Trappers. Terrestrials are also working in the canyon, with smaller Grands and other assorted hoppers producing well, as well as beetles, ants, and crickets. In town is also fishing excellent, with a lot of the same patterns. The main thing to keep in mind in Spearfish is to not be afraid to change your depth and weight, if you aren't getting down to the fish, they can't eat your flies. Some of the outer stretches of Spearfish have also been fishing great, if you can get permission to fish them.
Crow Creek - Fishing well with assorted terrestrials and streamers. One of your best bets for big fish, however, it isn't easy fishing by any stretch.
Box Elder - Great Brookie fishing! Anywhere from Nemo upstream has been pumping out good numbers of wild Brook Trout. Not a lot of big fish, but a ton of beautiful 6-12" fish!
Lakes - Canyon Lake has been giving up some impressively large fish lately, and on a regular basis. Streamers and sink tips are the key, with Kreelexes, Sculpzillas, Buggers, Bighorn Buggers, Mini Leeches, and Home Invaders bringing home the bacon. Great shot for big fish, and only a five minute drive from the shop.
