Fishing has been pretty darn good. The weather has been swinging between hot and just about right. Days when the highs are going to be in the 90s, its best to fish morning and evening.
Rapid Creek has a nice flow and is now fishable above and below and Pactola Reservoir. Caddis hatches are excellent in town. Pale morning duns are showing up too. Yellow sallies are hatching during the day. With the heat, we expect Tricos are probably coming soon. Right now is a great time to fish a dry dropper rig on Rapid. Fish a stimulator, hippie stomper, or micro chubby with a jig nymph dropper. Focus on the riffles and pocket water for best action.
Spearfish creek is fishing well. Flows came up a tiny bit with a storm last night, but not too high to fish. Nymphing will be productive as the flows come down. Some caddis around and yellow sallies as well. Dry dropper fishing is the ticket in the fast water.
Castle Creek below Deerfield is just about perfect right now. A great place to head to on warmer days. Good mix of bug activity. Terrestrials like hoppers and ants are a good option as well
Box Elder creek came up with the storms the past few evenings. It needed a boost. Should be fishing well for the next few days.
Spring Creek might need a break. Flows are down and with the warm weather the temps will be near lethal. Take precaution and use a stream thermometer if you plan to fish below sheridan lake. If the temp is 68 or above please don't fish.
