Black Hills Fishing Report July 25th
Fishing continues to be good throughout the Black Hills. Regular rain has Stream flows at good levels. Best fishing continues to be on Rapid Creek, Castle Creek, and Spearfish Creek. There are some good opportunities also on Boxelder Creek. Hatches of Tricos, Pale Morning Duns, Pale Evening Duns, caddis, and little yellow stoneflies continue. Cloudy afternoons also bring Blue Winged Olive hatches. Terrestrial action is picking up – best fishing with ants, beetles, crickets. A few more hoppers are showing up, but the hopper hatch looks pretty weak this year. Fishing with hopper patterns can be good but it is very localized.
Lake fishing remains decent. Best fishing for lake fish is on Silvan and Canyon Lakes. Center lake is a bit slow. Some of the other small lakes might be worth a try. Callibaetis mayflies are still hatching. Best luck is with leech patterns fished on a slow steady retrieve.
There are some good Warmwater options. I fished Sheridan Lake last weekend and had some good fishing for largemouth bass. Fish are moving a bit deeper due to the water temperatures. Large black streamers seem to be the best producer. The carp fishing should be picking up on Angostura and Orman reservoirs. I haven't been out recently for carp- I need to go fishing so I have more to report.
