In Town – Nymphing has been the best producer in town lately, with larger nymphs. Size 12-14 Pink squirrels have been my best producer over the past several weeks, almost without exception. Any of the hot spot nymphs are producing good numbers of fish in town. North Fork Specials, Sizzlin' Squirrel nymphs, Czeched Out Hare's Ears, and Tungsten San Juans are your best bets for consistent action in town. On warmer days, from around 11-2, the midge action has also been fairly productive. Size 18-22 Parachute Adams, Morgan's Midges, Morgan's Paramidges, Eric's Midges, and F-Flies have been doing the trick for the fish looking up.

Below Pactola – Streamers have been producing some big fish lately, with Kraft's Kreelex being the best bet for waking up some of the biggest fish in the creek. Consistent nymphing can also be had with larger 14-16 Red Fox Squirrels, Hunchback Scuds, North Fork Specials, Tungsten San Juans, and Pink Squirrels. Trail an 18-22 Bubble Back, UV Midge, Two-Bit Hooker, Tungsten Ready Baetis, WD-40, or Micro Pheasant Tail behind to fool some of the pickier fish. A sporadic midge hatch has also been happening between 11-2, and Size 18-22 Parachute Adams, Morgan's Midges, Morgan's Paramidges, Eric's Midges, and F-Flies have been doing the trick for the fish looking up. However, streamers are definitely the way to hook up with some of the bigger fish, and possibly stick the biggest fish of your season. Start 2013 out right with a big boy!

Spearfish Creek – Nymphing is the name of the game, both in the canyon and in town. Hot Spot Pheasant Tails, North Fork Specials, Czeched Out Hare's Ears, Pink Squirrels, and Tungsten San Juans have been good lead flies. Trail these with a WD-40, Tungsten Ready Baetis, Micro Pheasant Tail, UV Midge, Bubble Back, Two Bit, Skinny Nelson, or Black Beauty to keep hooked up over the next few weeks.
