Assistant Fly Shop Manager (Full-Time)

Overview
Dakota Angler & Outfitter is hiring an Assistant Fly Shop Manager to help lead the floor, elevate customer service, and keep shop operations running smoothly. This is a hands-on role for someone who leads by example and thrives in a busy retail environment.
What you’ll do
- Lead by example on the sales floor: customer service, product education, solution-based selling
- Support daily operations: opening/closing, cash handling, merchandising standards
- Assist with inventory accuracy: receiving, stocking, cycle counts, backstock organization
- Help train, coach, and support store associates (product knowledge + service standards)
- Manage workflow during busy periods and ensure coverage needs are met
- Collaborate on shop initiatives (seasonal assortments, events, local intel, etc.)
What we’re looking for
- 2+ years retail experience; leadership/supervisor experience strongly preferred
- Strong communication, calm problem-solving, and excellent follow-through
- Solid fly fishing and gear knowledge (or the ability to get there fast)
- Comfortable with POS systems and basic inventory workflows
- Availability for a consistent schedule, including Saturdays
Nice to have
- Fly tying knowledge, guiding/outfitting background, or specialty expertise
- Experience supporting online order fulfillment / e-commerce workflows

Overview
We’re hiring a full-time store associate to deliver great customer service, learn our product lines, keep the shop organized, and support daily store operations.
What you’ll do
- Help customers choose the right gear (rods/reels/lines, leaders/tippet, flies, waders/boots, accessories)
- Run POS/register, process returns, answer basic phone questions
- Receive/stock product, maintain backstock, help keep inventory accurate
- Keep the sales floor organized, clean, and well-merchandised
- Support general shop ops: pricing/tagging, opening/closing tasks, seasonal needs
What we’re looking for
- Friendly, reliable, service-oriented
- Comfortable learning technical products and explaining them simply

Job Type: Seasonal (spring–fall), part-time or full-time depending on bookings
Overview
Dakota Angler & Outfitter is hiring fly fishing guides for wade trips in the Black Hills region. We’re looking for guides who are great with people, teach clearly, and run safe, professional, fun days on the water. This is a WADE-TRIPS-ONLY guide position (no float/boat guiding required).
What you’ll do
- Lead guided wade trips and provide instruction/coaching for beginners through advanced anglers
- Teach casting, rigging, reading water, safe wading, and fish handling
- Select flies and adjust tactics based on conditions and client goals
- Manage trip logistics: meetups, timelines, communication, and shop coordination
- Emphasize ethics: local regulations, access etiquette, and Leave No Trace
- Help prep and care for client/shop gear (rods, waders, boots, packs, etc.)
Requirements
- Current CPR certification (required) — include expiration date
- Current First Aid certification (required) — include expiration date
- Strong fly fishing fundamentals and the ability to teach them simply
- Excellent customer service and clear communication
- Safety-first mindset and sound judgment in moving water and changing weather
- Dependable, punctual, and professional on and off the water
- Ability to wade for extended periods in variable conditions
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Preferred (not required)
- Prior guiding, instruction, coaching, or outdoor leadership experience
- Experience working with beginners and families
- Fly tying and/or strong entomology/seasonal pattern knowledge
