Small flies need small, high-quality hackle, and it's hard to find. The Whiting Pro Grade Midge Saddle is bred for it: about 80% of the feathers on these saddles are size 18 or smaller.

If you tie midges, Tricos, small BWOs, and tiny parachutes for tailwaters like Rapid Creek below Pactola, this is the saddle to own. The feathers are long, fine-stemmed, and densely barbed, so one feather ties several small flies, and the saddle will keep you in midge hackle for years.

About Whiting grades: Whiting grades saddles by how many flies they'll tie, not by feather quality. Pro Grade is the entry grade, followed by Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Every grade has the same quality feathers, so Pro Grade is the most affordable way into genuine Whiting midge hackle.
