Description

UTC Ultra Wire is one of the most versatile materials in fly tying and shows up in a huge number of patterns. It's the ribbing on Pheasant Tails and Hare's Ears, the body on Barr's Copper John, and a quick way to add weight, flash, and segmentation to countless nymphs.

Ultra Wire is a non-tarnishing, copper-based wire, so colors stay bright long after the fly is tied. It's soft enough to wrap smoothly and strong enough to reinforce fragile materials like peacock herl and pheasant tail.

Which size do I need?

  • X-Small: ribbing on flies size 20 and smaller
  • Small: the all-purpose size for ribbing most trout flies
  • Brassie: wire bodies on flies size 18 to 22, and ribbing on most trout flies
  • Medium: ribbing on size 8 to 12 nymphs
  • Large: streamers and large stonefly nymphs
