Fishing Report September 19th 2021
After a hot spell of weather this weekend, cooler weather will return this week. Highs will be in the low 60's to around 80. The cooler weather will make for ideal fishing conditions. Ideally, we could use a bit of rain, but so could most of the western US! Thankfully our core streams of Rapid Creek, Castle Creek, and Spearfish Creek have ample water and are fishing well. The highlight of fishing this past week was the solid dry fly activity. We certainly hope (and expect) that to continues, especially given the favorable forecast. Look for fish to key primarily on Baetis (blue winged olives), however, we did see lingering tan caddis and PMDs on the water this week. Tricos are hatching on Rapid creek in town earlier in the morning. Attractor dry flies and terrestrials are working too. Not too much difference from one stream to the next, Baetis are the primary hatch right now on all three core streams. If you like to fish dries then get out and make the most of it. These are perfect conditions for your lighter rods. Start searching with an attractor dry with a small dropper nymph and fish until the hatch gets thicker. Then switch out to match the hatch more closely.

In other news, lakes are still kicking into gear. Should see the rainbow fishing at Pactola to get better with the cooler nights this week. We have also heard that the carp bite has been good at Angostura.
